Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.
Course Description and Target Audience
The priority placed on self-care activities in the field of psychology has increased in the past few decades. The level of self-care effort and importance placed on self-care, in fact, is a predictor of burnout, stress, and when limited or absent, can even result in impairment. This training focuses on understanding factors that lead to burnout, ethical implications for addressing self-care, practical self-care strategies for psychologists, and explores ways to embed regular discussion, modeling, and practicing of self-care within the context of the supervisory relationship.
This presentation reflects established, researched practices, as reflected in the literature.

- Participants will be able to identify three factors that contribute to stress and burnout in the field of psychology.
- Participants will be able to describe the ethical importance of self-care practice in the profession and implications for addressing self-care in the supervisory relationship.
- Participants will be able to list three research-supported self-care strategies.
- Participants will be able to identify at least two strategies for addressing self-care with supervisees.
