Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.
Course Description and Target Audience
In this presentation, participants will learn about three different groups of behavioral problems and associated interventions often encountered by behavioral health providers in pediatric primary care. First, the presentation will cover behavioral interventions for behavioral insomnia of childhood, which is characterized by bedtime problems and nighttime waking. A discussion of Habit Reversal Training for repetitive behaviors will follow, with an emphasis on tic disorders and trichotillomania. Finally, participants will learn about pediatric elimination disorders and their interventions, with an emphasis on integrated medical-behavioral approaches. Target audience: Mental health professionals who work with children and adolescents.
Empirically supported interventions for children and adolescents are discussed. Every attempt is made to provide accurate, current, and practical information. No limitations identified. There are no known risks.
This presentation includes examination of how environmental context and family of origin impact the development of presenting problems and the choice and application of interventions. Included in that examination are factors such as culture, education, economic resources, access to care, stigma, and historical marginalization by the healthcare complex.
