Instructional Level

Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.

Course Description and Target Audience

This training will focus on ways in which clinicians and individuals can be supportive of and aware of issues that are prevalent within the LGBTQ+ community. It is a training compiled by the Safe Zone Project that covers terminology, ally ship, romantic and affectional orientations as well as gender identity and expression, and culminates with an in depth privilege exercise. There are no known risks to this presentation.

The target audience is mental health providers (advanced doctoral level psychology trainees, psychologists in practice, master’s level clinicians, etc).

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to describe how personal identity may create barriers to working with the LGBTQ+ population.
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate ways to become a stronger ally to the LGBTQ+ population.
  • Participants will be able to explain why knowing the positionality of ourselves and our clients is important when working with the LGBTQ+ population.
  • Participants will be able to explain aspects of gender presentation, romantic and affectional attraction, and how those identities intersect.


Presenter Information

Rosalyn Davis, PhD is a clinical associate professor of psychology, Director of the Mental Health Counseling Program, Affirmative Action Liaison and Faculty Diversity Liaison at Indiana University Kokomo where she has worked since 2013. She holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University, Master’s in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio and BA degree in psychology from Fisk University. Her work includes teaching clinical courses and speaking on areas of diversity, equity and inclusion in psychology and education at the local, state, regional and national levels. She speaks on these topics often both internally and externally to the University.

Live CE Training Format

CE’s for this live training will be earned through completing the following tasks:

  • Attend the live zoom training in full and review all provided documents in their entirety.
  • Fill out the program evaluation form.

Registration Cost

This cost includes video links, materials, and evaluation form required to obtain the CE’s. The CE certificate will be emailed to participants once it has been verified that you attended the training in full and completed the evaluation.
