Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.

Course Description and Target Audience

Multicultural and diversity variables are critical to address within the supervisory relationship. This presentation will review definitions, history, and outcome research within the field of psychology and with respect to multicultural considerations. Guidelines and best practices in culturally competent and responsive supervision will be explored, as well as calls to action from our field. Participants will be exposed to resources and strategies to improve their own awareness and practice, as well as ways in which to bolster development in trainees they support.

This presentation reflects current best practices in the field, as reflected in the literature. There are no known/identified risks or limitations to report.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to explain the relevance and importance of addressing culture and diversity variables in clinical supervision.
  • Participants will identify and articulate guidelines from the field of psychology relevant to multicultural supervision.
  • Participants will be able to describe best practices in addressing cultural factors in the context of supervision.
  • Participants will be able to describe at least two techniques to contribute to culturally sensitive supervision interventions.


Presenter Information

Dr. Sara Wilson is a licensed psychologist who has been practicing in Southwest Missouri since 2011. She earned a master?s degree in Clinical Psychology in 2010 and doctoral degree in 2012, both from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. Dr. Wilson worked in private practice for a number of years, followed by work in community mental health. She has delivered direct care through individual and group therapy and psychological testing and has provided supervision for pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral residents. She serves as an expert panelist for Project ECHO (Child Psychiatry ECHO, Missouri Telehealth Network and University of Missouri Health), is a supervision consultant for the National Psychology Training Consortium, and is trained in DBT, TF-CBT, EMDR and PE. In her current role as System Director of Youth Training and Consultation for Burrell Behavioral Health, Dr. Wilson works to provide consultation and training, both internally (departments within Burrell) and externally (Professional Development programs and presentations/trainings for school partners and community), as well as engaging in research and development of programs and protocols to assist with meeting mental health needs of youth and their families.

Video Homestudy Format

CE’s for this homestudy training will be earned through completing the following tasks:

  • Watch the presentation video and review all provided documents in their entirety.
  • Pass the post-test questionnaire with at least 80% correct.


A program evaluation form will be provided to all who registered following the training. Please be sure to complete this form since your feedback helps direct future CE programming from our organization

Registration Cost

This cost includes video links, materials, and tests required to obtain the CE’s. The CE certificate will be available to participants upon successful completion of the training (80% or higher on exam).
