Instructional Level

Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.

Course Description and Target Audience

This presentation will focus on the development, implementation and review/evaluation of Performance Improvement plans (PIP). Presenter will be using the PIP plan guidelines currently outlined by NPTC. These guidelines will provide interns with an introduction on how to develop formalized plans focused on supervisee improvement.

No potential risks are associated with this presentation. Materials will give trainees an example of structure and format of formalized improvement plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to list the components of an effective Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of when a Performance Improvement Plan should be initiation.
  • Participants will be able to describe how to evaluate the effectiveness of a PIP.


Presenter Information

James Noll, Ph.D., HSPP, is the Director of Training at Four County.  Dr. Noll received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Purdue University in 1987 and his masters and doctoral degrees in psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1993 and 1999 respectively. Dr. Noll completed his internship at the Lexington KY Veterans Affairs Medical Center with rotations in geropsychology, neuropsychology, and acute care.  He has been at Four County since 1997 and has been practicing in community mental health since 1995. 

Dr. Noll conducts individual, family, and couples therapy, completes psychological evaluations, and is involved in overall treatment planning.  He has interests in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and treating elderly individuals.  He has received advanced training in treating military personnel and their families.  He also is a lecturer for the counseling psychology department at Purdue University and teaches coursework on clinical supervision, life-span development, and basic and advanced counseling theories. Dr. Noll commissioned with the Indiana Army National Guard in 2016 and serves as a psychologist.  

Video Homestudy Format

CE’s for this homestudy training will be earned through completing the following tasks:

  • Watch the presentation video and review all provided documents in their entirety.
  • Pass the post-test questionnaire with at least 80% correct.


A program evaluation form will be provided to all who registered following the training. Please be sure to complete this form since your feedback helps direct future CE programming from our organization.

Registration Cost

This cost includes video links, materials, and tests required to obtain CE’s. Your CE certificate will be made available to you upon successful completion of the training (80% or higher on exam).
