Instructional Level

Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.

Course Description and Target Audience

This presentation will focus on the importance and feasibility of supporting gender-diverse patients in primary care. Discussion about what can be done on the individual clinician level, and on clinic-wide levels in order to create an inclusive space for gender diverse patients. Case examples and group discussions will further aid in this process. The discussions and case examples will allow participants to discuss ethical, moral, & legal aspects as well as develop ideas for what they can do immediately in their daily work and take away as future directions for growth.

We will be using materials that are backed by up to date research. Much of what we are going to discuss will align with best practices outlined by Seattle Children's Gender Clinic as they are one of the premier providers of gender supports in the area. While some of the discussion about providing care to gender-diverse patients may make some participants uncomfortable, or participants may have personal beliefs that are in conflict with supporting this population, there are no known risks to this presentation and it will be a safe space to have some conversations around how to navigate these complex feelings.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to assess networks of clinical support for provision of services.
