Instructional Level
Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.

Course Description and Target Audience

The purpose of the presentation is to bring attention to cultural factors that may impact psychological and neuropsychological assessment. The presentation will review one of the major frameworks in working with culturally different individuals. Participants of this presentation will be able to identify steps of the ECLECTIC framework, practice some of these assessment skills, and conceptualize a case using this framework.

The information reviewed will be from textbooks and articles within the past 10-15 years. Limitations may be that multicultural research in assessment is still relatively new compared to other aspects of psychology. Therefore, these limitations may in fact represent the underlying biases, underprivileges, etc. associated with a generally Euro-/Western-centric approach to assessment. Other risks may be that this presentation is limited in scope, as there are many aspects of diversity or culture that will not be discussed in length, due to presenter limitations in professional experience, time, and resources.
