Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning-level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.
Course Description and Target Audience
During this training, participants will reflect on their experiences working with children and families to date and the modalities they have used. If they have not utilized behavioral parenting interventions in the past, reasons for not doing so will be explored, including lack of knowledge, beliefs about the efficacy of such interventions, and potential anxieties regarding working with parents. After this self-reflection, participants will be presented with research supporting the efficacy of behavioral parenting interventions for a range of disorders and for adaptation to the primary care setting as well as research identifying the key components of these interventions. During the last portion of the presentation, the facilitator will introduce and describe key treatment components and lead the participants in guided practice and reflection. Target audience is mental health professionals who work with children in integrated care settings.
Behavioral parenting interventions are well-established and are supported for implementation in primary care settings. Every attempt is made to provide accurate, current, and practical information. The treatment elements presented are representative of the core elements across behavioral parenting interventions and are not limited to the specific format and methods associated with any one specific parenting intervention. There are no known risks of participation.
This presentation includes examination of how adverse childhood experiences., socioeconomic status, and cultural beliefs and practices regarding parenting impact child development and parenting practices.
