A Decade of Lessons Learned: Engineering PCBH via a Primary Care, Single Session / 'One at a Time' & Contextual Lens
Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.
Course Description and Target Audience
With well over two decades of combined experience providing services and directing programs dedicated to Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH), Drs. Beachy and Bauman are excited to provide a homestudy that details a parsimonious view of what allows PCBH services to be uptaken and radical within primary care clinics. This homestudy training will provide an overview of key ingredients for providers and directors working within PCBH, including knowledge of primary care, functional contextualism, and a single-session or a moment-at-a-time mindset.
Participants will specifically learn about the philosophy and aims of primary care, how this approach to care differs from traditional/specialty mental health, and the importance of BHCs working within PCBH assimilating to this philosophy of care. Further, participants will receive specific instruction, as well as pragmatic strategies, of how to apply a functional contextualist approach to their patient care, work with their medical teammates, and efforts to sell PCBH to administrators.
Lastly, participants will learn the importance of adopting a single session, or a moment-at-a-time, approach to providing clinical services, as well as how doing so ripples out throughout the individual, clinic, and community the BHC serves. This homestudy will consist of didactic, experiential exercises, and role-plays to enhance learning of participants.
Target audience is any healthcare provider working in myriad settings including but not limited to primary care settings and specialty clinics.
There are no known risks to this presentation.
