Intermediate --- Builds upon the learner's foundational knowledge, familiarity with the literature and/or experience in a content area. Programming at this level includes more depth than at a beginning-level program. It could also serve as a refresher course for individuals who have background in a content area and are interested in learning more contemporary applications.
Course Description and Target Audience
This daylong presentation will consist of didactics and discussion. The first didactics section will be a high-level review of the rationale for integrated primary care. The second will review integrated care approaches, including specific features of the PCBH model. The third didactic section will discuss keys to success in the PCBH model (and key practices to avoid). The final didactics section will review the team-based aspect of the PCBH model, including various examples of team-based care. The discussion section will involve small-group discussion followed by discussion together as a whole group. Each small group will discuss how to respond to common implementation challenges and misconceptions of PCBH, then will bring their responses to a whole group discussion. The target audience for this presentation is mental health professionals who work as part of the primary care team implementing the PCBH model.
The presentation will combine theoretical and practical information to help attendees understand and implement the PCBH model. Information will mix the latest empirical research with the presenter's extensive anecdotal experience. The PCBH model is only one approach to integrated care. This presentation will give a brief overview of other approaches but will not provide a detailed description of them. In addition, the anecdotal experiences discussed represent only the experiences of the presenter. No risks noted.
We will discuss how inequitable access to care experienced by marginalized communities and how integration can improve that. We will also discuss the importance of a more diverse mental health workforce.
