Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.
Course Description and Target Audience
This training will provide learners basic knowledge of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, including what Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is, background and history, the therapeutic orientation of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy practice, the importance of the 'Somatic Narrative' within clinical practice, basic practices of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, review relevant research, and provide information on two Sensorimotor Psychotherapy skills easily integrated with other therapeutic modalities. Target audience is mental health professionals who work with psychological trauma and related disorders.
The information presented is accurate and informed by the presenter's education, current research, formal training, and clinical work providing Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. The utility of the information presented will provide learners additional perspectives on incorporating the body in clinical work. Limitations of the topic and materials presented is not intended as clinical training and current empirical research on Sensorimotor Psychotherapy has been limited case studies, clinical illustrations, and small sample sizes. There are no potential risks associated with this training or the materials provided.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy recognizes the particular impact of racism, how oppression becomes embodied due to racial trauma, how traditional psychotherapy practices can be grounded in Eurocentric beliefs neglecting other cultural experiences and beliefs, and how some therapeutic practices such as mindfulness has been appropriated from other cultures and traditions.

Presenter Information
Chris Ogle is a Licensed Independent Social worker. I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, was a training assistant for a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training program for psychological trauma and have studied and received training in various Body-Centered therapeutic modalities. My areas of specialty as a therapist are PTSD, trauma-related disorders, anxiety, depression, and attachment disturbances.
