Course Description and Target Audience
This presentation will define and describe relational therapy, focusing on marriage and family therapy. Discussion related to roles and subsystems of the family unit will also occur. Three major types of family therapy are presented, along with primary interventions associated with these theoretical orientations. Additionally, ethical considerations will be noted, and examples will be given throughout the presentation. This presentation is perfect for psychology students and mental health professionals who work with, or are likely to work with, families and couples.
All resources are from reputable sources, and many have been published within the past 10 years. Many of the concepts related to family therapy are focused on non-LGBTQAI populations. Additionally, findings from these studies have not been generalized on all cultures. This presentation may ask for you to reflect on your own experiences and may cause discomfort regarding any unresolved issues in your own family of origin.
There will be discussion of how to ensure that all types of families and couples should be approached in relationship therapy.
