Introductory --- Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.
Course Description and Target Audience
Multicultural and diversity variables are critical to address within the supervisory relationship. This presentation reviews definitions, guidelines, and best practices in culturally competent, sensitive, and aware supervision. This presentation reflects current best practices, as reflected in the literature.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to explain the relevance and importance of addressing cultural and diversity variables in clinical supervision.
- Participants will demonstrate a deepened awareness of culture and cultural aspects of identity by being able to verbalize and enact attending to these variables in mock demonstrations.
- Participants will be able to describe best practices in addressing cultural factors in the context of supervision.
Presenter Information
Dr. Sara Wilson is a licensed psychologist who has been practicing in Southwest Missouri for more than 10 years. Dr. Wilson worked in private practice for a number of years, followed by work in community mental health. She has delivered direct care through individual and group therapy and psychological testing and has provided supervision for pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral residents. She serves as an expert panelist for Project ECHO (Child Psychiatry ECHO, Missouri Telehealth Network and University of Missouri Health) and is a supervision consultant for the National Psychology Training Consortium. She is trained in DBT, TF-CBT, EMDR and PE. In her current role as System Director Clinical Training for Burrell Behavioral Health, Dr. Wilson works to provide consultation and training programming for the Burrell system and broader communities.
Video Homestudy Format
CE’s for this homestudy training will be earned through completing the following tasks:
- Watch the presentation video and review all provided documents in their entirety.
- Pass the post-test questionnaire with at least 80% correct.
A program evaluation form will be provided to all who registered following the training. Please be sure to complete this form since your feedback helps direct future CE programming from our organization.
Registration Cost
This cost includes video links, materials, and tests required to obtain CE’s. Your CE certificate will be made available to you upon successful completion of the training (80% or higher on exam).
National Psychology Training Consortium (NPTC) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NPTC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
