Course Description and Target Audience
This presentation will provide relevant information about the Southeast Asian experience from two different perspectives. The goal of the presentation is to provide individuals with information about an underserved population with the hopes to inform their assessment or treatment of these individuals. Target audience: mental health professionals who work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Relevant research, facts, and statistics will be used to support the presentation as well as the presenter's lived experiences. We have included several articles written in the past decade as well as non-peer-reviewed resources to augment the presentation information. The limitations of lived experiences and paucity of research will be discussed. There can be risk of emotional distress, as the topic involves some discussion on racial and ethnic discrimination, prejudice, and inequities.
This topic's focus is on the mental health of individuals with Southeast Asian descent, which directly involves concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
