Course Description and Target Audience

This presentation examines the literature and criteria associated with differentiating ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and other common differential diagnoses. Other diagnoses examined include Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, and other disruptive behavior disorders. The presentation will focus on understanding the disorders both in the literature and in observation. It will examine the historical context of the disorders and blend research knowledge with practical tips for assisting in application of diagnosis - primarily in youth but also in adults.

The presentation will briefly explore the various treatments commonly utilized for each. This presentation is primarily for doctoral psychology interns and licensed psychologists. It presupposes a strong basis in diagnosing and training in psychological assessment. Masters-level practitioners will also benefit from this presentation because while the content is advanced, it is presented in an easy-to-understand manner that focuses on practical understanding of the diagnoses.

The information offered is evidenced-based and is there for as accurate as possible based on current empirical research. The limits are those of the existing theories and research. Significant research is always ongoing on this subject including in the DSM-5-TR sections on each diagnosis and differential. There is no known risk associated with this presentation.
