This presentation is for mental health providers that work in an outpatient treatment setting to increase awareness of substance use, evaluate substance use, and to understand treatment options for patients.
Unfortunately, the current prevalence of substance use continues to grow, with a significant increase with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will increase awareness and knowledge related to patient care associated with substance use. This presentation is a brief overview and not meant to be a complete and total training on substance use disorders and treatment. The topic of substance use disorders is a broad topic and can be divided into many specific training areas. Therefore this training is meant to be an initial overview to encourage additional training in the field of addiction to provide quality patient care. There should not be any significant risks associated with this training, however the topic of substance use disorders is a sensitive subject matter that is associated with significant stigma, therefore with any topic related to vulnerable populations there is some potential for risk, which will be considered and addressed by the presenter.
This presentation will incorporate diversity with examples specifically related to military and service members as a unique and diverse patient population, in addition to the wide variety of patients served in an outpatient setting, especially with FQHC and CMHC facilities.
