Introductory — Designed for psychologists who may have little to no background in a specialized skill or content area. The learner can become acquainted with the theoretical underpinnings, principles, methods, and perspectives of a content area. Although it can be used as a foundation for more advanced learning, a program may simply focus on breadth, enrichment or general knowledge.

Course Description and Target Audience

The third webinar in a four-part series regarding Making PCBH Transformative, attendees will be able to take a deep dive into the structure of BHC visits for both initial and follow-up visits. While attendees will learn how to and the importance of setting agendas and keeping visits efficient, a focus will be on how to make visits contextual and compassionate. Specifically, attendees will learn about the Contextual Interview and how this prompts the BHC to be curious, compassionate, and engaged within visits. The webinar utilizes point-of-care resources (e.g., UpToDate), as well as the most recent articles on the PCBH model, to ensure information is accurate and minimizes risks/biases.

The target audience is behavioral health providers, medical providers, and administrators that work in primary care settings. There are no known risks to this presentation.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to describe the Contextual Interview and how it influences PCBH visits.
  • Attendees will be able to describe a general outline of PCBH initial visits.
  • Attendees will be able to describe a general outline of PCBH follow-up visits.

Presenter Information

David Bauman, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist and principal member of Beachy Bauman Consulting. Dr. Bauman is also an associate member of Mountainview Consulting Group. Dr. Bauman regularly consults with health systems around the globe regarding the integration of behavioral health into primary care, as well as helping providers and systems provide contextual and compassionate healthcare. He also serves as the Behavioral Health Education Director at Community Health of Central Washington, where he oversees a variety of behavioral health training programs (i.e., predoctoral psychology internship, post-doctoral psychology fellowship, and psychosocial medicine curriculum within the family medicine residency). He also serves as the Region Training Director of the National Psychology Training Consortium (NPTC)-Cascades Region psychology internship. Lastly, Dr. Bauman works as a Behavioral Health Consultant at Central Washington Family Medicine.

 Bridget Beachy, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist and principal member of Beachy Bauman Consulting, PLLC. Dr. Beachy is also an associate member of Mountainview Consulting Group. She has worked with health systems around the world and strives to make healthcare more compassionate and engaging, while focusing on the integration of behavioral health providers into primary care. Also, she is currently the Director of Behavioral Health at Community Health of Central Washington (CHCW) where she leads a team of Behavioral Health Consultants (BHC). She serves as a faculty member and BHC at CHCW’s Central Washington Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Beachy regularly presents around the country and globe on PCBH and contextual behavioral approaches to common concerns seen in primary care. She values training future psychologists to work seamlessly within fully integrated primary care teams.
